Albany is a city of almost 57,000 people, centrally located in Oregon as the county seat of Linn County. Albany is the state’s 11th largest city. There is much to see and do in Albany, which is adjacent to Corvallis, and serves in part as a bedroom community to the home of the Oregon State Beavers.

Albany has two high schools with a combined enrollment of over 2,700 students and Linn-Benton Community College is a short distance from Calvary Baptist that boasts an enrollment that has continued to climb to over 24,000 students.Calvary Baptist Church was established in the early 1950s and at one time had an average Sunday morning attendance of over 200 people, which could be considered an “Oregon Mega Church”! Through time, the congregation has dwindled down to around 30, who have weathered the storms. The median age of the congregation is 72yrs old and they have realized that a new start is needed. The group reached out to the NW Baptist Convention and began the Re-plant process in 2018.

Randy and Kandy were transferred by Randy’s employer from the Houston area to the Northwest in 2008. Randy now manages three clinical labs in Eugene and Springfield, while Kandy is a fulltime clinical care provider. They began working with the NWBC as Church planters in 2013 and were called by Calvary Baptist to serve as the Intentional Interim for the replant in October of 2018.

Matt Holdahl was born in Portland, Oregon but after some time in the foster care system, he was adopted by his aunt and raised on the Oregon Coast. He joined the Navy after high school and met his wife and helpmeet, Tiffany. They have been married for 15 years and have three great kids: Bradyn, Charley Ann, and Abram. They have lived all over the US and abroad, but God brought them back to Oregon three years ago. Matt is currently finishing his MDiv at Corban University and serving as a pastoral intern in his local church.

As Matt prepares to replant Calvary Baptist Church in Albany, he and his family are excited to share not only the Gospel but their lives with the families in this growing community, for God’s glory!

The vision for the church is simple…follow the model laid out in Acts 2:42-47. The Holdahls have seen this vision become reality within their community group. This group, made up of around 40 people (some who have never attended church, others who have been hurt and left the church, and some who have faithfully walked with Jesus for decades) gather in each others’ homes to break bread, worship, pray, study the Word, and fellowship together. They bear one another’s burdens, encourage each other, and hold one another accountable to the Gospel. God has been faithful to add to their numbers those who are being saved. Over the last year, Matt has made, matured, and multiplied leaders who are now leading their own groups, all for the sake of the Gospel.
